Eric Foster is a member of San Marcos Lutheran Church .

Scott Williams, Hammered Dulcimer
November 8, 2009

The hammered dulcimer is a very unusual and international instrument. Originating in the Middle East, English soldiers brought the instrument back to England during the Crusades about 1000 years ago. In England, it became known as a hammered dulcimer, and it made its way throughout many parts of Europe.

The dulcimer was later mechanized to become what we now know as the harpsichord which later evolved into the modern-day piano.

With Celtic, colonial, medieval, and Renaissance influences, Scott continues to develop a repertoire of songs on the hammered dulcimer which he now performs.

The Hutchins Consort

May 16, 2010

The Hutchins Consort plays on the eight scaled violins of the violin octet designed and built by famed Lutheran, Dr. Carleen Hutchins. The instruments are the first successful attempt to create an acoustically balanced set of instruments that can sound truly like violins across the entire range of written music. With instruments ranging from the tiny treble violin, tuned one octave above the standard violin, to the gigantic large bass violin, tuned one octave lower than a 'cello, the Hutchins Consort produces an astonishing pallet of sounds.

The Hutchins Consort plays music of the Middle Ages and Renaissance to the music of the modern masters. The Hutchins Consort displays a breadth and depth that few traditional groups match, and a sound that is truly unique.
